Bisque Bond Instructions

Follow these instructions for best results:

1. Surface Preparation:

• Wet/Leather Hard Clay: Bisque Bond can be used as you would a normal slip. Apply it to both surfaces to be joined. It will create a much stronger bond than a traditional slip.

• Greenware: Lightly moisten both surfaces to be joined with a damp sponge. Avoid over-saturating the clay, as this can weaken the bond.

• Bisque: Ensure both surfaces are clean and free from dust or debris. Thoroughly wet both surfaces with a damp sponge or brush.

• Fully Fired (Vitreous/Glazed): Clean both surfaces thoroughly. If the surfaces are smooth, roughen them slightly with fine-grit sandpaper to provide better adhesion.

Important Considerations:

• For larger or heavier pieces, you may need to use additional support during the drying and firing process to prevent shifting.

• Allow the repaired piece to dry completely before firing.

2. Application:

Apply a liberal amount of Bisque Bond to both prepared surfaces. Ensure even coverage on the areas that will be in contact. Use a lot of the product - in a later step you can salvage the excess and reconstitute it to use later.

3. Joining:

Carefully bring the pieces together and hold them firmly in place for a short time (1-2 minutes). This allows the Bisque Bond to soak into the porous surfaces and create a strong initial bond.

4. Clean Up:
Immediately clean any excess Bisque Bond from the joint lines with a damp sponge or brush. This will prevent unwanted buildup and ensure a clean, seamless repair.

5. Firing:

• Bisque Fire (Optional): If desired, you can bisque fire the repaired piece before glazing.

• Glaze Firing: Bisque Bond can be glaze fired directly from its raw state. The repaired piece can be fired to the appropriate cone for your glaze.
